32 Steps in Three stages

Every ceramic piece we make goes through no less than 32 individual steps in its creation.
From initial planning and creating to curing and drying, managing each step takes time and patients to insure the ware does not succumb to forces of nature that seek to destroy a labor of love.

Here is our list of the steps we take in the process

Planning & Creating.
Either hand build or thrown and altered.
Plan your work

Cut weigh & wedge clay

Clay to the wheel

Cone and center

Press the clay into a puck

Open or Break In

Shape the bottom start the walls

Press & compact the bottom

First pull

Compress the rim and shape the base

Second Pull

Rib the sides and edges

check the Rim

Third pull

Rib to desired shape

Check the Rim

Wet surface decoration

Pre trim base

Final smoothing and detail

Stage 2 is where we decorate and prep the ware to the first Kiln firing
Decorating & Drying

Dry green-ware to leather hard

Remove From Bat

Trim, cut a foot

Leather Hard decorations

Dry green-ware to Bone Dry

This 3rd and final stage is where we complete the ware and read it for marketing
Ware to the Kiln for Bisque Fire

Remove Bisque ware from kiln, sand debur to prep for glazing

Add Wax, Glaze, Slip Stains

Clean excess glaze from bottom & move to Kiln

Load and fire kiln

Post fire manicure

Photo, catalogue, price and publish

Package & present to customer
